"Orphan Studio is a lifestyle not a company"

Vision

To establish a network of skilled designers of all disciplines, in order to enable the pursuit of career goals, and to provide increased access to the most skilled designers in all fields.

"Get your happiness out of your work, or you'll never know what happiness is!"

-Elbert Hubbard (A Message to Garcia ca. 1899)

Network Structure

It is our mission to establish a network of studios in all markets. Out of this network, business ventures may evolve. Leaders of those ventures will have full access to the talent of the network. This system benefits our clients & collaborators by providing them with access to the best talent locally, nationally, and globally. These studios exist to provide "Orphans" a place for exploration and to build strong portfolios. The cross-discipline nature of these studios ensures quality in design by keeping all members current and passionate.

This network operates in a similar manner to a professional athletics "farm system". Where the expert companies are developed with the support of a network that includes the best talent in all disciplines. This is how Orphan Studio will gain the trust of our investors and clients.

Ultimately, the Orphan Studio Network will grow to a point where job opportunities are abundant and talent may be selected according to project type and specialty.

Studio Structure

The studio environment is a live/ work environment. There are several benefits to this: Financial, because living together minimizes expenses. Second, because there are fewer expenses, each Orphan can afford to work less, allowing more time for Orphan endeavors.

Work at the studio level is not limited to any one discipline. Rather, members are encouraged to research and explore any design discipline.

By giving freedom to the studios, members will be able to develop skills specific to their desired career path.

Finally, Orphan Studios are encouraged to work on all levels, from small scale charrettes, to prototype building, to international design competitions.

What is an Orphan?

Definition:

(noun) a person or thing that is without protective affiliation, sponsorship, etc. eg. "the committee is an orphan of the previous administration"

- dictionary.com

Being an Orphan means that you have chosen, or you have been forced to seek the alternative to the traditional post-college route.

Becoming an Orphan allows the member to more easily find their part within the professional system. In an effort to improve society's perception of design professionals and to increase the quality of the services available to the public, for the benefit of society as a whole.
